thanks to everybody for voting on their favorite image! here’s the one i submitted:
i’ve been doing a lot of art/crafting lately. the other night, the hubster took me to our local goodwill store, where i scavenged for junk to upcycle. unfortunately, i forgot to take “before” pictures of some of them.
this one was an ugly brown plastic frame with an equally ugly print of birds inside. i turned it into this:
it was easy peasy! i coated the frame with a couple of coats of glossy spray paint first. then i cut the pretty paper to fit inside, and pasted it over the ugly bird print. then i used glue dots to stick the ribbon around the perimeter and tied it in a bow at the top for hanging. i haven’t decided what i’m going to do with it yet. i may just keep it for myself, i may post it in my etsy shop, i may give it away as a gift. i *have* decided to do handmade christmas again this year, so getting an early start on that would be nice…
another project i’ve been working on is an altered book. i bought this old hardcover book a while back to rip pages from to use in art projects:
obviously, it’s seen better days. i do love that it has my name on it, though. 😉 anyway, i found this picture somewhere (i forget where, if you know where it came from, please let me know so i can give them proper credit) and added some pretty text. i was inspired by the part in peter pan where they sing “you can fly! you can fly! you can fly!” i love the part where peter says “think of a happy thought.” and the children say “any happy little thought?” so i added that text to this picture, because it just seemed right.
then i thought that would make a really cool book title. so i decided to make it the title of my altered book. the book is going to be a journal for writing all your happiest thoughts. i’m going to glue some of the pages together and whitewash them to make a good surface for writing. i’m not finished with it yet–i can’t seem to get it just how i want it, but here’s what i’ve done to it so far.
in order to stay inspired to do more art projects, i need to clean up this mell of a hess:
i did get my desk area cleaned up. that is the most important thing right now, because i haven’t been doing much writing lately & i need a place to write where i will actually feel productive. plus, fall semester starts in less than a month, and willy & i will both need a place where we can hole up & do homework or study & not be distracted by dogs or tv or what have you. so i did organize my desk area:
by the way, i’ve been waiting for like three years now to get the wallpaper that’s going to go on this wall. i’m forcing the hubster to take me to a wallpaper place this weekend so we can finally order it. it’s going to be black & white damask, and i’m going to hang my big, beautiful portrait of katherine hepburn over the desk.
another view of my desk area. you can sort of see the katherine hepburn portrait there on the floor on the left. also, that’s my painting area to the right. that is, when i feel like standing up to paint. usually, i sit cross-legged on the floor to paint, because i like to lean over.
another cool view of my painting area.
i’ll be posting more pics of whatever projects i do as i finish them. and i’ll definitely post more pictures of my art room once it’s all finished.
