scarf swap! and friday five

i stole the above picture from my friend katie’s blog. another katie that i don’t really know, but whose blog i read, is combining some of the most fun things ever:  lovely scarves, fun mail, and new friends. she’s hosting a scarf swap!  go to her blog, loves of life, to find out more! am i signed up for this swap? you bet your sweet bippy i am!

i signed up for the scarf swap yesterday, and it must be kismet, because look what i got in my email today!

pretty sweet, huh?  i was excited before, but now i’m super excited.

in other news, the starbucks next to my school is beginning to feel like a second home to me. i like it better than the one on main street for these reasons:

1. the people are nicer

2. they play better music most of the time

3. there are four times more comfy chairs

4. duh, it’s next to my school.

and now for a friday five, which i’ve neglected for quite some time, as i haven’t been blogging as much as i’d like…

hearing:  clinking of dishes, and clair de lune, one of the best classical pieces of all time. so beautiful.

smelling:  sweet nectar of the gods

tasting:  banana chocolate vivanno smoothie. yummmm.

feeling:  tension in my jaw, b/c i unconsciously clench my jaw when i’m concentrating on something

seeing: a girl with a cute haircut! (i just looked up to see what i could see)

download this:  empty, by ray lamontagne

(i really wanted “be here now”, but it wasn’t on myspace. definitely check it out if you haven’t heard it. actually, my advice is to just download both albums, gossip in the grain and til the sun turns black.  they’re beautiful, and i love *every* song. that doesn’t happen with very many albums at all.)

today’s favorite etsy item:   handmade vintage journal by stories divinations.  i think this is a really cool idea, making journals/sketchbooks, etc. by rebinding vintage books, especially french ones, b/c i love anything french.  🙂

mail call!

guess what arrived in the mail today…..

my housewife paper kit from half caf!! it’s so cute. here’s the kit:

i’m using it to make a minibook called “snarkalicious”.  i had an old day planner from anne taintor that i tore apart, and i’m using them to make this little book. i’ve only got the cover done so far:

i also used some papers that weren’t included in the kit. i’ll post more when i’ve got more done. i started this other book a while back. i’m talking at least a year ago… i sort of quit scrapbooking for a long time in lieu of other forms of art. honestly, i got tired of the way people always thought scrapbooking was cheesy (and i admit that it is sometimes–those stupid stickers & die cuts from the first days of the hobby–*shudder*).  i recently found amanda johnson’s blog, here’s looking at me kid, and her stuff was really pretty & inspirational to me. so i’m sorta kinda scrapbooking again. anyway, the book i’d started a while back was called “life’s little luxuries”.  originally, i had taken pictures of things like a bubble bath, my cozy reading chair, books, a teapot, etc, and was going to put those in the book. but yesterday i was reading a magazine & found a little starbucks cup, so i cut it out to use in my art journal. when i was in my art room today, i looked at the “life’s little luxuries” book, and then saw the starbucks cutout, and then i got to thinking. i glued the cutout in the book, and did some little doodles around it, and i LOVE how it turned out!! i’ve also been using gesso a lot for things other than preparing canvasses–it’s what i used to coat the wooden cover of “snarkalicious”. so basically, i’ve found a happy medium between drawing/painting and scrapbooking. yay!  here’s my first page of “life’s little luxuries”:

DSCN5026okay, so that’s all i’ve got for today. ironman is on, and i need to pay strict attention to robert downey jr’s beautiful face.

today’s fave etsy item:  the gorgeous secret garden top by lirola.  WANT!!!

i love etsy. it’s the best website in the whole world. i could spend hours just browsing through everything.

how cool is this necklace?

i think i’m going to start including my daily favorite item from etsy with each post. srsly, if you’ve never been to etsy.com, do it now.  i’ve bought such awesome handmade things–artwork, jewelry, hairbands/flowers…. you can find anything. it’s especially fun to browse the vintage category and see what treasures you can find.

my sis (who, by the way, has requested that her code name on this blog be “cleopatra”) is quite fond of buying vintage items from etsy.  then when people tell her how cute said item is and ask where she got it…..

“this? oh, IT’S VINTAGE.”

it’s her favorite thing to say.

ETA:  i just found out that rosie o’donnell has her very own shop on etsy. how cool is that? not that i’m a huge fan of hers, but still, i think it’s very cool.
