another reason to love tea…hee.

i was really inspired by last night’s TEA party.  we just found out about it on monday. i was perusing craigslist, looking for a book group or something to join (i really need more friends!) and i came across an ad for the charleston tea party.  i said something to willy about it, and he told me he’d been hearing about it a lot on talk radio.  this was the first i’d heard about it.  i’ve never been very interested in politics, preferring to research a bit whenever a presidential election came along and ignore anything political for the next four years.  but lately i’ve been getting a lot of discussions about government-related stuff. i’m a very passionate person who tends to stick her foot into her mouth an awful lot.  so i’d really like to be more educated about our governmen, no matter how much i despise most of the idiots who run our country.

so i’m considering minoring in political science. i just want to learn and know what i’m talking about when i climb onto my soapbox.

anyway, the tea party was a huge success all around the country.  being in the middle of the crowd on the custom house steps, i couldn’t see how far the people gathered. i’d estimated that we had a few hundred, but it was actually more like 6,000 at its largest.  isn’t that amazing?  we’re a relatively small city.  atlanta’s tea party was estimated to have between 15,000 and 20,000.

the basis of the TEA parties was to protest our government overspending, using our taxes for ridiculous crap like BAILOUTS.  don’t get me started.

anyway, a couple of favorite quotes from the night:

“The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples’ money to spend.”  ~Margaret Thatcher

“I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing.”  ~Thomas Jefferson
